On March 15, 2018, the Ministry of Education released the record and examination results of undergraduate majors at general institutions of higher learning in 2017 (J.G.H. [2018] No.4). The undergraduate major “Cybersecurity” of Southeast University was approved by the Ministry of Education, which made Southeast University become the first university in Jiangsu Province granted the undergraduate major of “cyberspace security”. This is another landmark after the university was awarded as one of the seven universities of “Demonstration Project in the Construction of First-class Cyber Security Institute” (ranking No. 2) by Office of the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission and the Ministry of Education in September 2017.

Cyber security is a hot issue of global concern and has become a national strategy in various countries. It not only concerns people’s daily work and life, but is of strategic significance in national security and development. At present, SEU has 4 national experimental teaching demonstration centers and national engineering practice centers, and 2 school-level experimental centers and platforms in the field of cybersecurity. 12 research platforms support the researches of the School (including 5 national-level, 5 provincial and ministerial-level and 2 university-level platforms).

In addition, our school has established dozens of cybersecurity related technology research centers with key enterprises in the industry. We have been cooperating in the research and talent training of key technologies in terms of mobile information security, cybersecurity monitoring, Internet of vehicles security, smart home security, smart grid security and other aspects. At present, senior talents from tens of enterprises have served as enterprise mentors of graduates majoring in cybersecurity.

In terms of talent cultivation, the head of Office of the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission introduced: “the construction of the demonstration project pays more attention to developing an internationally influential, competitive and leading first-class institution and guiding the cultivation of cyber security talents.” It is reported that our school has added Cybersecurity in the independent enrollment in the recently announced 2018 General Regulations for the Independent Enrollment. The school will make full use of the policy and platform of enrolling young students to attract the “prodigies” with potential in cybersecurity. On the other hand, the university emphasizes the joint degree education of BA, MA, and PhD, and formulates special training programs to explore the talent training system with Southeast University characteristics and in line with the international standards. In 2017, School of Cyber Science and Engineering, SEU has enrolled 52 undergraduates. In 2018, SEU is due to enroll 150 students majoring in cybersecurity. Along with the transfer students, students with specialty or by joint training, the number of undergraduates will reach 200 per year.
