On the afternoon of August 26, the commencement ceremony for the 2018 undergraduates of the School of Cyber Science and Engineering was held at Southeast University Jiulonghu Campus. Executive Vice Dean of the School Cheng Guang, Vice Dean Chen Liquan, Dean Assistant Yang Wang, Teachers’ Representative Xiao Qingjun, Director of the academic office and graduate student counselor Wu Zhaoqing, and Chen Ming, Secretary of Youth League Committee and undergraduate counselor, attended the event, and the ceremony was hosted by Zhang Lu, Deputy Party Secretary and Vice Dean of the School.
At the beginning of the ceremony, all of the people stood up and sang the national anthem of China.
After that, all the freshmen watched the video “Being Profound and Distinctive, Aiming High to be First-class” to learn about the establishment and development of the School
With the warm applause, Prof. Cheng Guang, Executive Vice Dean, spoke on behalf of the School. Prof. Cheng first expressed earnest congratulations and welcome to all freshmen enrolled in 2018. Then he introduced the history of SEU, the professional characteristics and development advantages of the School of Cyber Science and Engineering. Later, he put forward three specific requirements with his ardent expectations for all undergraduates. 1. Undergraduates should have a positive mind, deepen their ideological understanding to serve the people of the country. 2. Undergraduates should keep healthy and take more exercise. 3. Undergraduates should enhance their practical ability, participate in scientific research and innovation, and get involved in the society.
Combining with his own growth, teachers’ representative Xiao Qingjun, started from “three studies” and “four trivial things”, and shared with students how to study, to do things, and to be a good person. He hoped that students would do four trivial things – “going to the library often, taking exercise, not indulging in cellphones, and developing good habits in learning” and would make great efforts to achieve their dreams.
He Bowen, representative of 2017 undergraduates, shared his campus life with the freshmen. He talked about his experience and thoughts from three aspects – understanding SEU, making reasonable plans and self-achievement. Bian Junjing, 2018 freshman representative, expressed her hope for a new life at campus. She said she was not only a freshman of SEU, a new member of the collective, but should take social responsibility. She would try her best to practice the school motto of “Striving for Perfection” from then on and persist in her dream with practical action.
The commencement ceremony ended successfully in the chorus of SEU school song.
At the end of the ceremony, Vice President Chen Liquan and teacher Yang Wang gave a detailed explanation and introduction to the freshmen on the topics of “Undergraduate Education Plan” and “Academic Competitions”. (Chen Ming)
